Colorado Motorcycle Accident Attorneys
In 2006, there were 2,226 two-vehicle fatal crashes involving a motorcycle and another type of vehicle. Colorado lost 74 motorcyclists due to accident fatalities that year. The motorcycle always fares much worse than the truck or car in these collisions, and frequently the injured motorcyclist is evacuated by ambulance while the driver of the car or truck is left to "explain" the accident to the reporting officer.
Anyone injured in a motorcycle accident needs an experienced trial lawyer to gain the best result, and for Colorado accidents, Chalat Hatten & Koupal PC has the knowledge and resources to protect your rights and aggressively pursue your claims. Contact a lawyer at our firm today.
Riding a motorcycle is not the same as driving a car, and we understand the implications of those differences when reconstructing a motorcycle accident and presenting the case to the jury. While we may not put on leathers and go for a run every weekend, we have successfully represented many clients that do, and would welcome the opportunity to help you.
Colorado Bicyclists and Pedestrians Injured in Traffic Accidents
When a bicyclist or pedestrian is struck by a motor vehicle, the resulting injuries are often devastating. In 2006, 773 bicyclists were killed and an additional 44,000 were injured in traffic crashes; in Colorado alone, 10 were killed in traffic accidents.
In most motor vehicle/bicycle crashes involving adults, the motorist either turns left into an oncoming bicyclist heading straight in the opposite direction, or the motorist turns right into a bicyclist heading straight in the same direction. Frequently a motorist will drive out from a driveway or through a stop sign, colliding with a bicyclist. The traffic laws of Colorado determine liability in such cases, and we have the experience to press the claims of innocent victims.
On average, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic crash every 110 minutes and injured in a traffic crash every 9 minutes. In Colorado, 11% of all traffic fatalities are pedestrians. Most pedestrian crashes involve a forward moving car where a standing or walking pedestrian is struck and accelerated to the speed of the car and then continues forward as the car brakes to a halt. Although the pedestrian is impacted twice, first by the car and then by the ground, most of the fatal injuries occur due to the interaction with the car. While the lower limbs are the most commonly injured body parts, most pedestrian fatalities are due to head injuries.
When the victim is not able to testify as to the dynamics of the accident, the skill of an experienced trial lawyer is needed to adequately represent the victim. Chalat Hatten & Koupal has a proven record of success representing families and individuals who have been struck by vehicles while walking or cycling.

Examples of Our Successes
Fatal Head-On Collision Between Truck and Motorcycle
We represented the parents of a young man killed in a head-on collision between his motorcycle and another driver's pickup truck. An independent investigation showed that even though the motorcyclist had been drinking heavily, the cause of the accident was that the truck was driving in the wrong lane. By aggressively pursuing the truck driver's personal assets, we were able to achieve a quick settlement at the maximum policy limits.
Pedestrian Killed when Run Over by an Intercity Passenger Bus
The pedestrian was at the lower downtown Denver intersection of Wazee and 15th. The intersection is plainly marked by crosswalks and pedestrian signals. He was proceeding northeast with the walk light. The bus, finishing a trip which had originated in Raton, N.M., was turning left, from northeast to northwest. As he turned left, the side of the bus knocked the pedestrian down, and then the bus rolled over him. The pedestrian sustained massive, fatal head and internal injuries. He was unmarried and without children at the time of his death.
We represented the surviving parents. We advanced the claim that the surviving parents could bring an economic loss claim for the financial support that their son would have been expected to make to his parents after their retirement.
Prior to filing suit, the insurer for bus company paid a confidential amount to settle the case, which included the statutory maximum for sorrow and personal grief of $341,250.00 plus the allowable medical and funeral expenses, and a compromised amount for the net pecuniary loss we had calculated. The firm charged a reduced fee under the circumstances. The parents used the funds to establish a scholarship in honor of their son.
