Denver Dangerous Road Conditions Attorney
Colorado Road Hazards Lawyer
Colorado's winter driving conditions can change from sunny to blowing snow within an hour or two - or just a few miles up the same road. This can wreak havoc on drivers who have to immediately adapt to the change in weather. The weather also drastically affects drivers that are not from the area and not accustomed to driving in adverse conditions.
If you have been injured in an auto accident caused by a driver who was negligent in poor weather conditions, turn to a lawyer at Chalat Hatten & Koupal PC. As a Denver-based firm that handles cases throughout Colorado, we understand how weather can be a major factor in auto and truck accidents. Our firm strives to help clients understand their rights and to pursue compensation for the injuries they have suffered as the result of negligent driving in adverse weather conditions.
Colorado Chain Laws
Under the Colorado chain law, during adverse weather drivers are required to use tire chains conforming to specific standards. This law applies to every state highway, federal highway and interstate throughout the Colorado. When the chain law is in effect, drivers will see signs along the roadway indicating which vehicles should chain-up. In some areas of the state, lighted variable message signs will also alert drivers of the chain-up information. Additionally, all commercial vehicles - those used in commerce to transport passengers or property - operating on I-70 between mileposts 163(Edwards) and 259 (Morrison) from Sept. 1 to May 31 must carry conforming chains at all times, regardless of weather conditions.
Failure to Put Chains on a Commercial Vehicle
Drivers of commercial vehicles who ignore the chain law can be fined $500, plus a surcharge, for not putting chains on their vehicles when required. A driver can be fined $1,000 plus a surcharge if the vehicle is not chained when the law is in effect and, as a result, blocks the highway.
If the driver of a commercial vehicle ignored the tire chain law and caused an accident in which you were injured, we can help. Our firm aggressively advocates for clients who have been injured by truck drivers negligently driving without chains in poor weather and road conditions.
